Days 17 and 18: Prep and Travel

Updated: Aug 16, 2019

Thursday was a sleep in day for most with a focus for the day on workshop preparation. On Saturday we are running a workshop at Aga Khan University in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania where both teachers and masters of education students will be attending. This workshop has a different feel from our Rwandan workshop. We met at 10am and brainstormed how to structure the workshop and what topics we wanted to discuss. We then broke off to work in our group's on our chosen topics and venture into Kigali for food and one last tour of the city.

I had a 2hr interview with a school back home in Canada at 8pm that I was nervous about, especially since I hadn't found any place suitable for an interview with reliable internet connection in all of Rwanda! Preparing for the interview, on top of some family stuff happening back home, got me a bit overwhelmed. But let me tell you, this group of teacher candidates and Jane and Hakeem totally had my back and got me through this stressful day. Thank you everyone!

On Friday we said goodbye to good coffee and cooler temperatures and flew back to Dar es Salaam. Kigali was fogged in so our flight was delayed. We arrived late to Dar es Salaam and hit the worst of traffic, so our short flight ended up being a full day adventure. We arrived back at Seashells Millenium Hotel (our Tanzanian home away from home), ate some dinner, discussed our workshop, and hit the hay early...tomorrow is the last official day of practicum so we better make it a good one!
