Day 16: Females in STEM

Updated: Aug 16, 2019

Day 16 was a relatively quiet day for the Queen's crew with only one school visit. Some of us went to Camp Kigali bright and early to attend their morning assembly and the rest of us visited a new school. Lychee Notre-Dame de Citeaux Kigali is an all girls Catholic school with a focus on STEM and the development of the whole female. The headmistress is also a member of the Heads of Schools Organization (HOSO) and I believe is the only female head of school in that organization? Needless to say, the school was very impressive. We were given a tour of the school by one of the students who spoke Hi English (and was also fluent in French, Kinyarwandan, and probably Swahili!). She was so poised and professional, despite being thrown into her tour guide role.

After the tour of the school we met many of the school's teachers in a lecture theatre. Hakeem and Jane introduced the 1 Million Teachers organization and answered questions.

After the school visit Hakeem was off for more meetings and the rest of the crew took advantage of the free afternoon. Most went for a hike up Mt Kigali, while a few of us stayed back to do some work, read, and relax.
